THE BAND
"Farra" means party in spanish. This is what the music of Farra 8 inspires when you listen to it. It makes you want to move your body to the rhythm of their upbeat music. The number 8 was introduced into the name of the band to represent the number of band members at the time the band was born.
With a fusion of several Latin music genres including Vallenato, Salsa, Cumbia, and Merengue, and mixed with elements of rock and funk, Farra 8 has performed in the Houston scene since 2011, and has expanded its performances to other cities in Texas and neighboring States in recent years. Farra 8 has performed in arena shows, university auditoriums, concert halls, outdoor music and art festivals, and Latin clubs among other venues.
The members of Farra 8 are distinguished professionals in the areas of medicine, engineering, and geology who share a passion for latin rythms and creating an original sound. Since most of the band members work in the energy industry, the band's followers jokingly say that Farra 8 might as well be running an oil company.
MUSIC
In the last few years, Farra 8 has become known in the Houston Latin community for performing covers of music of reknown artists such as Carlos Vives, Felipe Pelaez, Los Amigos Invisibles, Joe Arroyo, Oscar D'Leon, Juanes and others.
Farra 8 brakes the barriers between several Latin music genres like vallenato, cumbia, dominican merengue, salsa and several afro-caribbean drum patterns, and creates a fusion of sounds that subtly incorporate elements of rock and funk. This fusion has come to define Farra 8's style, shaped by the musical background of its members of Mexican, Colombian and Venezuelan origins.
